L.A. based writer and performer
Dennis Hensley
is author of two best-selling books, Misadventures in the (213)
and Screening Party. He co-wrote Testosterone
with director David Moreton, premiered at the Toronto International Film
Festival. He co-wrote and directed, with Jack Plotnick, the
award-winning short film Evie Harris: Shining Star. In
2005, Dennis helped shape the hybrid comedy series Life of Leisure,
currently in development at ABC. In his fifteen years as a free-lance writer, Dennis has appeared in Movieline, In Style, Us Weekly, TV Guide, Total Film, Premier, Esquire, Cosmopolitan, Glamour, Detour, Gotham, Hampton’s, Out, The Advocate, Time Out, The Face, Ingénue, Seventeen, YM and New Woman. He’s interviewed Charlize Theron at a bowling alley, Celine Dion in a limo on the way to her ‘Titanic’ Oscar rehearsal, and Carrie Fisher in her very own bed. In addition to his writing, Dennis wrote and recorded his own CD of music, The Water’s Fine and is one of three co-hosts of the new syndicated gay radio show, Twist. He was also recently one of Kathy Griffin’s ‘main gays’ on her reality show Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D List. Other television appearances include The Rosie O’Donnell Show, TNT’s Movie Lounge, VH-1’s Super Secret Movie Rules, Bravo’s Sexiest Screen Moments and Divine HD. He also appeared in the films Girls Will Be Girls and Testosterone, and he is a regular guest host on SiriusOutQ satellite radio. For the last six years, he’s hosted the uproarious Home Video Gong Show at Outfest, L.A.’s Gay and Lesbian Film Festival and performed a stage version of Screening Party, to packed houses in L.A. and New York. He is the creator and host of the comedy show The MisMatch Game, which was named as one of the Ten Best Stage Performances of 2004 in The Advocate. Dennis is also a regular moderator of panels at the Sundance Film Festival’s, Queer Lounge. |
